Forthcoming Meetings (summary only)
Meetings are held at Kirkby Malham Parish Hall. Members, guests and visitors always welcome. These normally take place on the third Thursday of the month at 7.30 pm. See link to ‘Events’ page below for full details.
  • March: Vikings, Scotts & Cistercians – a medieval history of Bordley.
  • April: A tour of the Lake District in 1808.
  • May: The life of Dr Arthur Raistrick.
  • June: Special visit to Skipton Museum.
  • July: History of Leeds-Liverpool canal.
  • August: Life in medieval Giggleswick.
  • September: How the Cistercians transformed the Yorkshire economy.
  • October: Droving; whys and hows.
  • November: Malhamdale to the New World- Harrison family history.
  • December: Tuesday 9th Christmas dinner. Note: 7pm.
  • January 2026: Members evening – reading village diaries & short talk.
  • February: Talk & AGM + wine & cheese.
  • March: on next programme, now fully scheduled (October 25).

MLHG (Malhamdale Local History Group) Purposes
Malham Cove 1753
(Thomas Vivares (1735-1821)

Providing an extensive range of information for both local and family historians. The site is based on the historic ecclesiastical Parish of Kirkby in Malhamdale, but we also have some information on other nearby townships that fit socially and geographically within the area (Coniston Cold, Eshton, Winterburn

The Archive & How to Access

We maintain a physical archive and a digital archive of material relating to the history of the townships. Please direct all enquiries through mlhgenquiries@gmail.com

Wanted: New material for the MLHG archive – such as: old documents, photographs, postcards, maps, records, letters etc. Recent additions to archive, detail of access arrangements (+ archive catalogue link)

VIDEO RAMBLES & VOICE RECORDINGS

This new feature will operate once we can upload short video clips. It will take you on a tour of a historical place, event, document or artefact within Malhamdale or a relevant area. Video clips will be produced on an unprofessional basis from local and visiting people who have a special interest or expertise in an aspect of the history of Kirkbymalhamdale.
